Sister Waffie Lee Lewis was born Waffie Lee Washington on October 18, 1934, to the late Steve and Queen Ester Washington in Portland, Arkansas.
She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined New Light Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful Usher for 55+ years. She later served God at St Andrews Church based in Arkansas City under the leadership of Pastor Willard Blackman, where she remained until God called her home.
Waffie Lee Lewis departed this early life on May 21, 2025, at 2 pm at Nightingale Nursing Home in Crossett, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Queen Ester Washington, her steadfast husband of 30 + years, George William Lewis, her brother Sonny Washington, and her niece, Rita Washington. She leaves to cherish her beautiful 90 years of life: One daughter, Dorothy Jean Washington of Parkdale, AR: One grandson, Carlos Ramond Washington of Fort Worth, TX: One granddaughter, Shuneka Montrea Udom (Desmond Udom) of Grand Prairie, TX: Seven great-grandchildren: Seven great-great grandchildren: One nephew, Bruce Washington of Portland Arkansas: Two special people that she loved as family: Rachel Norwood and Shonna Abernathy: and all of her cousins and friends. You ALL held a special place in her heart, named and unnamed.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the chapel of Mitchell Memorial.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the New Light Church in Portland, AR.
Burial will follow in the Portland Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR
