Ovie Thrower was a strong, vibrant and classy woman, born in Crossett Arkansas on June 5, 1928 to the late Ned and Ruth Thrower. She was the fourth of six children who all proceeded her in death. The greatest joy was bestowed upon her Feb 14, 1947 when her beautiful daughter Charlotte was born.
She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1948 where she displayed the amazing versatility and strength of a unique woman working as a cosmetologist and a forklift driver. She ventured off to Los Angeles, California from 1962 to 1966. She continued her journey by relocating back to Chicago where she was very active at Cathedral Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of her cousin Reverend Otis Anderson Jr. After retiring from Owens Illinois Plastic & Glass after 35 years in 1989 she yearned to return to her roots in Crossett Arkansas. She joined First Baptist Church of Crossett under the leadership of Reverend Jackson.
Ovie (The Queen) meant so much to so many, she loved and cared for her bonus sons and daughters, nieces and nephews and all that needed her. Her heart was broken by the loss of her first great-grandson Lorenzo Martell Franklin on April 22, 2018.
She leaves to carry on her legacy, Daughter Charlotte Thrower, Grandchildren Ovie Yvette Thrower and Anthony Marta Thrower, (3) great-grandchildren, Terez (Vierra), Denecia and Nakari. (9) great-great-grandchildren, Trinity, Lorenzo Jr., Lennox, Taylor, Aiden, Lewis, Lila, Rae’Lynn, S’Kari and a host of amazing nieces, nephews, family, friends and partner in crime Evelyn Ogwin that meant the world to her. She earned her wings on Saturday, June 13, 2020, and now resides with her Heavenly Father.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the Pugh Cemetery in Pine Hill, AR.
Visitation will be held from 11 until 7 Friday, June 26, 2020, at the chapel under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR
