Norma Thompson Obituary

Norma Jean Washington Thompson was born September 23, 1946, in Crossett, AR to Lucille Malone and Verton Gibson. She and her siblings were later adopted by James and Janie Washington.

Norma Jean graduated from T. W. Daniel High School in 1964. She met and married her late husband Mr. Ernest Thompson. To this union four children were born: Patrick Thompson, Prentice Thompson, Kimberly Thompson, and Ernest Thompson Jr. She later adopted three of her grandchildren, LaPorsche Thompson, Kierra Thompson, and Sierra Thompson. Norma worked briefly at Georgia Pacific paper mill, but most of her life was spent as a full-time mother and housewife.

Norma was a member of First Baptist Church, in Crossett, AR where she served as an usher for many years. On Saturday, September 15, 2022 Norma went to be with the Lord. She was affectionately called “Chicken” by her former classmates, and “Mom” by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sitting on her porchdrinking coffee and talking on the phone. She also loved presenting her best self to the world and would never be caught without her make-up. She was also the only usher who would wear heels with her uniform.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brothers Reverend LoAndrew Washington and Reverend Evandrew.
Norma Jean leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons: Patrick (LaShunda) Thompson, Prentice Thompson and Ernest Thompson Jr.; four daughters: Kimberly Thompson, LaPorsche Thompson, Kierra Thompson, and Sierra Thompson; one sister: Doris Johnson; Nieces: Heather Walls (Brian), Cherry Johnson, Patricia Johnson; Nephews: Evandrew Washington Jr., LoAndrew (Felicia)Washington Jr., Leonardo  (Beryl)Washington, Victor Washington (Putina); Cousin: Sue Williams, two loving sisters-in-law: Ruther Washington and Sue Washington; Grandchildren: Amber Thompson, Laquisha Scott, and Janiesha Glover; Great Grandchildren: DeJon Wade, Donte Mason, Chemistry Miller, Emery Scott, Caden Boston and Kiersten Taylor; Special friends: Celester and Lucille Smith, Helen Morris, and Catherine Boston; Special god-daughter: Pattie Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
