Matthew Wimberly Obituary


Matthew “Suntan” Wimberly was born on July. 23, 1962 to the late Tommie Lee Williams and the late Lovie Lee Miller of Strong,  AR. He was 58 years old. God called him home from labor the rest early Saturday morning March 20, 2021. He departed his life at the Community Hospital of Huntington Park in Huntington Park, California. He was a native of Crossett, AR until he moved away in 1989-1990 to 90 to the big city of Los Angeles CA. 

At an early age Matthew along with other siblings was adopted by the late Fred Wimberly and the late Gladest (DoMitchell) Wimberly, two very loving parents from Crossett, AR.
At a very young age, Matthew was baptized at the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Reverend Porter Jasper. He continued his faith walk after moving away in various churches in Los Angeles, CA and other surrounding cities. 

Matthew attended Crossett Public school system He was in the class of 1981. He received his GED later in life and then he went on to a Community College in Los Angeles, CA where he earned a degree in Computer Technology. He was smart as a whip. He spent over 25 years living in Los CA and other surrounding cities he also wandered off to Las Vegas, NV where he stayed off and on for about 3 years. Years later he came back to visit Crossett, AR occasionally. He always enjoys stays and visits. He was truly an adventurer and a daredevil of a person.
He loved fishing, joking around, telling TALL tales and having fun with friends and family. One day while joking around with his friends he came up with the name “Suntan-Superman” and the name “Suntan” stuck with him all of these years. He was one of a kind guy, he lived his life to the fullest. He will truly be missed by family and friends and all who knew him. 
He was employed while in Crossett, AR by a good friend Robert Crain, doing construction jobs of all types. After moving away he continued to do roofing jobs and other small jobs until his health started failing. He was preceded in death by his sister Tamara : Nooney” Brandon and Tommie Jean Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories

two daughters: Shalay Dickerson of Conway, AR and  Sharrita Cason of Hot Springs, AR; two sons: Matthew Jeremy Wimberly of Crossett, AR and Matthew Wimberly, Jr of Los Angeles, CA; Five Sisters: Vicki Black of Fort Worth, Tx, Theresa Williams of Crossett, AR, Sherrie Williams and Michelle Williams of Riverside, CA and Alice Hicks of Ohio; seven brothers: Danny Bouie of Waldorf MD, Manuel Black,  Dennis Black, and  Cedric Black all of Crossett, AR, Monoleato Modisette of Conway, AR, Derry Williams of Riverside, CA, and Otis Wimberly of Northridge, CA,  five grandchildren Kashtyn Bridges of Conway, AR, Melanie Wimberly and Brayson Wimberly of Crossett, AR,  Marcel Cason and Romello Cason of Hot Spring, AR; A special friend: DeVita Bivens of Compton, CA; Two sisters in law; Lynette Bouie of Waldorf, MD and Evon Shepard of Northridge, CA; a special cousin: Connie Warren of Los Angeles, CA she always looked out for him; Caregiver/Living Assistant: Mack Shorty of Compton, CA

Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Mitchell Memorial in Crossett, AR.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, from 11 until 7 at the chapel.

Burial will follow at the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR.
