Hizo Samuel Causey, affectionately known as “Bae” to his family and “Sam” to his many friends and coworkers, was born on August 22, 1948, to Hizo and Bernice Causey in Bonita, Louisiana. On June 14, 2025, Sam departed this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, hard work, and quiet strength.
As a young boy growing up in Galion, LA, Sam was raised in faith at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, attending services with his parents and siblings. He began his early education in Galion but soon left school to enter the workforce, a choice that reflected the deep sense of responsibility and resilience that would come to define his life.
Over sixty years ago, Sam made Crossett, Arkansas his home. It was here that he built a life grounded in faith, family, and an unwavering work ethic. He was united in holy matrimony with Pinkie Pitts, and together they shared a life full of love and commitment. Sam was a loyal and dedicated employee of the Carter Family for over 45 years, working with James A. Carter Timber Company, Jim A. Carter Timber Company, and Royal C Farm.
Sam was a man of simple pleasures—he found joy in gardening, fishing, and caring for his dogs and chickens. His love for nature and animals was matched only by the love he had for his
family and community.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Valerie Lynn Causey; grandparents Elise Perkins-Hollins and Robert Washington; his parents Hizo and Bernice Causey; his sisters Katie Mae Robinson, Bama Lee Robinson, Delois Gillespie, Cora Johnson, Bertha Braggs, and Florita Abdul; and his brothers Wilfred Robinson and Rev. Flood Causey.
Sam’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted children: Stacie Gibbs of White Hall, AR; Dawn Brooks of Winnsboro, LA; Christopher (Sabrina) Morrison of Memphis, TN; Michael (Miriam) Beverly of Crossett, AR; Dr. Michelle (Marcus) Wayne of El Dorado, AR; LaQuicia (L.V.) Paskel of Crossett, AR; and a bonus daughter Chiauna (Christopher) McMurrain of El Dorado, AR. He is also survived by 23 beloved grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; his brother Julius Causey of Canal Point, FL; and sisters Erie Dell Price of Oakland, CA, and Velma Smith of Grand Prairie, TX.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Crossett, AR.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the chapel of Mitchell Memorial.
Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR.
Sam also leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will carry forward his memory with laughter, love, and stories shared across generations. Though he may be gone from our sight, Hizo Samuel Causey will forever remain in our hearts. We will continue to celebrate his life and honor his memory in the way he lived—with quiet dignity, steady love, and unwavering faith.
