Obituary

Charles Alexander Rowland entered this life on September 1, 1943, to Samuel and Otelia Rowland.

Charles attended Gardner High School and went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Charles went on to acquire employment at Reynolds Aluminum where he was the first African American to pass the certification the Skill Mill operator building air plan wings for the Boeing 747 airplane wings. Charles also graduated from the United seminar Bible college in 2013. Charles was a person who loved life. He loved to travel and tell of his many adventures. He loved education; he wanted all his children to be well educated. Charles loved talking on his CB where he gained the name “Roller Coaster”. He loved playing golf his grandchildren named him Tiger Hood. Charles would play golf with anyone who would play with him. Charles started a landscaping business as a side job. He loved good music and socializing.

Charles united with Mt. Olive A.M.E Methodist Church at an early age. He remained faithful until his health failed. He loved teaching Sunday school. In fact, he loved the word so much that he often tried having bible study with any and everyone who would listen.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents. Six brothers Robert Rowland, Jerl Rowland, Jerry Rowland, Sam Perry Rowland, Eugene Rowland, & John Rowland. Two sisters Vivian Rowland-Jones, Bera Rowland-Cockrell, & Ozella Rowland. Charles loved his family dearly.

His memories will be cherished by his wife Mamie Rowland (Lady Rollercoaster) he called her MC affectionately; Four daughters: Veyon Rowland-Smith (Michael), Sylvia Begay (husband), Charnise Rowland all of Chicago, IL, and Shannon Rogers (LaRoy) of Huttig, AR; Two sons: Jimmy Jennings (Chenell) of Huttig, AR, Patrick Foreman (Kendra) Arizona; Two brothers: Aubrey Rowland (Alma) of Huttig, AR, J.B.Rowland (Vivan) of Chicago, IL; God son: James Elliott (Nadine), God daughter: La Deja Tubbs; His grandchildren and great grandchildren; Grandchildren: Victoria, Mikele, Kyla, Kyle, Chris, Gabrielle, Destiney, JiQuintas, Gabriel;
his sister: Antwan (Brittany), Angelo (Jasmine), Keoun (Kianna) Kiara, Valentino (Jazmine), Ki’Jana (Brittany), Quintaya, Jasmine, Joseph, JaKayla; 15 Great grandchildren. A very special cousin and best friend: Odell Barr; His classmates who he dearly loved. Special Friends who remained throughout theyears: Jimmy Furlow, John “Unit-2” Williams, James’s “Dragon” Lewis & Idell Jefferson. Special Niece Cynthia Rowland-Newton Special Sister-n-law Sarah Smith. Special Thanks to care givers Kindred Homes, Life Touch Hospice, Cynthia Rowland-Newton, LaRoy Rogers, Bobby Furlough, Chenell Jennings and JiQuintas Brown.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Mt. Olive AME Church in Huttig, AR.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 on Friday May 13, 2022 at the Mt. Olive AME Church.

Burial will follow in the Batts Chapel Cemetery in Huttig, AR under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR.
