Mr. Herbert “Pap” Ridgell Sr. was born on February 6, 1949 to the late Edward Ridgell Sr. and Ajamae Ridgell in Monticello Arkansas. He departed this life Monday, December 24, 2018 at the age 69 in Crossett Arkansas. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Drew High School in Monticello Arkansas. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mount Zion AME Church.
He was employed at Burlington Industries, Georgia Pacific Plywood, and Maxwell Hardwood Floor Company. Pap loved watching sports, news and politics. He excelled in deer and squirrel hunting. He enjoyed gardening, playing dominos, bid whist, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Mr. Ridgell was united in holy matrimony to Linda Gamble and the union was blessed with two children Veronica & Bryant Ridgell with both preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents Edward & Ajamae Ridgell, two sisters: Sadie Hunter, Eddie Mae Robertson, five brothers: John Ridgell, Stanfield Ridgell, Williard Ridgell, Ralph Ridgell, And Edward Ridgell, Jr.
Mr. Ridgell also was united in holy matrimony to Martha Richard-Richard and this union was blessed with three children Herbert Ridgell Jr., Erica and Eric (Emily) Ridgell. One step daughter Tamaca King-Hendrix.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: Herbert Ridgell, Jr. (Caretaker), Eric (Emily) Ridgell, Erica Ridgell all of Crossett. Five sisters: Marva August of Chicago, IL, Shirley Ridgell of Kanas City, KS, Eleanor Ridgell, Lois (Jesse) Washington of Monticello, AR, and Mary (John) Hudspeth of Sherwood, AR 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. One special nephew whom was raised in the same house as a brother, Jimmy Harris. Special thanks to Laretha Johnson (Caretaker) and EVERYONE for all the loving care that was provided for our beloved Herbert Ridgell, Sr.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Monticello, AR.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Servicee of Crossett, AR.
