On December 6, 1947 in Strong, Arkansas, Tommy (B) Ward and Eva Gladys Craig-Ward welcomed a daughter, Flora M. Ward, until their family.
Flora grew up in the Ward Chapel Community, and in her earlier years attended Ward Chapel Church. After moving to Strong, Arkansas she united with Shiloh Baptist Church and remained until she moved to Gary, Indiana. In the latter 1990s, she returned to Arkansas and united with Living Word Ministry Church. She remained a dedicated member until her transition.
Flora attended Gardner High School in Strong, Arkansas from elementary to high school and graduated with honors in 1966. After High School, she attended Oil Belt Vo-Tech in El Dorado, Arkansas and graduated from nursing school. She was employed by Warner Brown Hospital in El Dorado, Arkansas for several years and then move to Gary, Indiana to further her nursing career. She was employed as a registered nurse in the hospital in Gary Indiana for several years and also in Home Health and other Healthcare areas. She was known for her quick decision-making, dedication, and compassion for patients.
Flora was a loving, caring and compassionate person. She loved children, never had any of her own but she was a surrogate mother for many children. She loved to read, cook, recite poetry and teach children who were intellectually challenged.
On April 1, 2019 she transitioned from this side to be with her Lord, with her Earthly family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents: Tommy and Eva Ward, two brothers: Willis and Willie (Wallace) Ward.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Three Go- children, Jordyn Morris, Devyn and Ashtyn Shelton, three sister: Velma Fike, Mary D. Clark (Louis) of Strong, Arkansas, two brothers: Charles Ward (Mary) of Gary, Indiana, Thomas Ward (Linda) of Strong, Arkansas a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Curry Chapel AME Church in Strong, AR.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2019, from 11 until 7 at the chapel.
Burial will follow in the Ward Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR.
