Edward Earl Gillis

Edward Earl Gillis transitioned from his earthly home on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Chicot County Medical Center in Lake Village, AR. We will cherish all the memories of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. 

Earl was born to Abe Gillis and Bernice Thompson on April 2, 1952, in Lake Providence, LA. His parents preceded him in death. Edward lives in Lake Providence with his mother throughout his youth. He graduated from GW Griffin High School in Lake Providence, LA where he was known as “Gillis”. After graduating from high school, Earl relocated to Montrose to be closer to his brother (George Thomas who preceded him in death) and his family.
Upon moving to Montrose in the early ’70s, Earl began his career as a farmer working with Shackelford Farms until his retirement. He also was a volunteer firefighter for the Montrose fire department where he remained a member of the department until health complications forced him into retirement as well. While living in Montrose, Earl found and married Juanita Robinson who has preceded him in death.

Leaving to cherish the memories of his life are two sons: Carlton Gillis of Montrose, AR, and Gregory Gillis; his three sisters-in-law: Katheryn Thomas, RithieRobinson-Allen and Linda Dawson of Montrose, AR. His Brother-in-law: George Robinson of Kansas City, MO; cousin: Clara May Thompson of Chicago, IL; one grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral service is Sunday, Nov 3, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the St Peter Baptist Church in Montrose, AR.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the church from 5 until 7.

Burial will follow in the Montrose Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR.
