Mr. Mavis J. Simmons was born September 1, 1962 to the late Melvin Simmons, Sr., and Grady Simmons in Crossett, Arkansas.  He was also preceded by five siblings:  Robert Allen, Janice Allen, Mary Ann Allen, Melvin Simmons, Jr., and Birley Smith and stepmother, Angel Lee Bradley.
In his childhood years, he was baptized and united with First Baptist Church. In 1976, the family moved to Wilmar, Arkansas.
     Mr. Simmons graduated from Wilmar High School in 1981.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United State Army in 1982 and served his country until 1994.
     In l995, he moved back to Crossett where he gained employment at the Georgia-Pacific Plywood.  From 2002 to present, Mr. Simmons worked various jobs.  At the time of his departure he was employed with Ideal Construction Company.  He enjoyed working on the new school project with this company.
     Mr. Mavis J. Simmons was a fun-loving person.  He loved his family, friends and would help anyone he could.
On Monday, August 14, 2017, Mr.  Simmons bade this world farewell as he slept in the comfort of his home.

     Siblings: Mary (Waymond) Cavaness, James (Irma) Allen, John Simmons, Geraldine Simmons, Redenna (Aubrey) Tate and Earl Terry; Aunt: Bettye Davis; Great Aunt, Valeana Yates; Special Cousin, Beverly Fenceroy; Special Friend, Beverly Caldwell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Crossett, AR.

     Visitation will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 from 11 to7 at the funeral home.

     Burial will follow in the Westview cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Service of Crossett, AR
